How To Add A Site Map-Homestead Website

To add (or adding) a site map to the Homesteads websites site builder program there are a few things that must be accomplished first. This article will provide the “how to” steps needed for creating and uploading one into the file manager configuration of the site builder program. Once this procedure is accomplished successfully the information can be uploaded into a Google Web masters Tools account which will better the chances of getting higher rankings and more pages indexed by the search engines.

Steps For Creating Homestead Websites Sitemaps (linked to video)

1) Create a file on your computer to download the map into. I usually save the file as what ever the website name is.

2) Go to a website called XML – sitemaps.com. Enter the URL and click the start button.

3) Download the map into the file that you created for it on your computer.

4) Go to your site builder program and open it to the file manager page.

5) Click the Import icon at the top left of the page just under the help text.

6) Browse your computer files and find the one that you downloaded the Homestead Website-site map into.

7) Open the file then click on the text that says, sitemap.xml

8) Click on the open tab and the desired file will be added to the index to your right.

9) Scroll through your files until you get to the sitemap.xml, click on it to highlight, then publish it. The page will not open into a different page but will remain in the file manager. You have now completed the task.

Adding a site map to a Google Web masters Tools file for a Homestead Website will require that you have a free Google account set up. Within this program you will find a section for web masters. It may take a while to learn the ropes but once you have figured out how to add your sites into this section you will find a text link that says “add sitemap.” When you find the section that has your websites URL in bold black print at the bottom of the instructions, with a text box next to it, insert the words “sitemap.xml and click on the tab below the box. That should be all that is needed your finished.
